Hydrogeochemical Processes Governing Uranium Mobility: Inferences from the Anthropogenically Disturbed, Semi-arid Region of India

چکیده

Khetri Copper Belt, Rajasthan, is anthropogenically active and geologically belongs to the Delhi super-group. A study was designed understand geochemical processes controlling elemental mobility in groundwater. Sampling sites were divided into three zones, i.e. copper, quartzite granite mine zones depending on type of mineral excavated. total 32 representative groundwater samples collected analysed for heavy metals radionuclide (U) using ICP–MS. maximum U concentration (average 87 µgL−1) observed zone, minimum 13 found copper zone samples. high (maximum 430 attributed dissolution due geogenic anthropogenic activities. Despite presence Jaspura Gothra granitoid abundance low suggesting scavenging by sulphides or iron oxides. Additionally, at confluence two geological groups, Fe with a which further confirms U. It evident from results that absence iron-bearing sulphides, would be very compared current concentration. also indicates sulphide-rich waste. The present recommends research feasibility mining waste removal contamination

Simulation of the catchments hydrological processes in arid, semi-arid and semi-humid areas

Hydrological processes and their spatial distribution directly are relevant to climate, topography, geology, and land use in the watershed. Therefore, use of a model whit integrity and high performance for simulating the process in deferent watersheds is very important. In this study was assessment performance of semi-distributed SWAT model in simulating hydrology processes in three watersheds ...

Chromosomal diversity and phylogenetic inferences concerning thrips (Insecta, Thysanoptera) in a semi-arid region of Brazil.

The order Thysanoptera is composed of cosmopolitan phytophagous and predaceous insects with diverse life histories, behaviors and habits. This order is currently thought to form a trichotomy with Hemiptera and Psocodea; Hemiptera and Thysanoptera are considered to be sister groups. The interrelationships within Thysanoptera remain unclear and cytotaxonomic studies are scarce in thrips. We repor...

Rational Expectations? Evidence from Planting Decisions in Semi-Arid India

The optimal time to plant in rainfed semi-arid India is at the onset of the monsoon. While planting too early may result in losses because the seeds may not germinate if the first rains are not followed by subsequent rains, postponing planting for too long is also costly, because yield will typically be lower. Given that mistakes about the precise timing of the monsoon are costly, in this paper...

Forecasting when it matters: Evidence from Semi-Arid India

In regions of India where cultivation is rainfed, the optimal time to plant coincides with the onset of the monsoon. In this paper, we elicit from farmers their prior beliefs about the timing of the monsoon and assess their accuracy by comparing them to historical data. We find substantial heterogeneity in beliefs and ∗Financial support from CRMG, GARP and World Bank is gratefully acknowledged....

Hydrogeochemical Evolution of Groundwater Resource in an Arid Region of Southeast Iran (Ravar plain–Kerman province)

This study was carried out in the Ravar plain, a typical arid zone in southeastern Iran, with the objectives of evaluating hydrochemical quality of the groundwater resources and identifying the processes that modify the groundwater composition. Groundwater samples were collected from representative wells spread over the study area. Major cations and anions along with physico-chemical parameters...
